Easter should be a wonderful time for our dogs, too. Here are some ideas and tips on how to make Easter extra special for your four-legged friend:
- Easter egg hunt for dogs: Instead of chocolate (which is dangerous for dogs), hide small treats or toys in safe areas of the garden or house. The dog will be thrilled to search, as scent games promote mental activity and are fun.
- Homemade Easter treats: Bake special dog biscuits in the shape of Easter eggs, bunnies, or flowers. Use dog-safe ingredients like oat flour, peanut butter, and carrots. Hard-boiled eggs (in moderation) are also a great surprise.
- Easter photoshoot: Of course, you can dress up your dog in a cute Easter outfit, such as a bunny ear headband or a colorful scarf, and take fun photos (but don’t overdo it, because whether the dog really finds it funny is another question).
- Fun and games: Use the Easter holidays for extensive play sessions such as ball throwing, frisbee, or an agility course.
- Special walk: Take an extra-long spring walk with your dog in a blooming park or beautiful countryside to enjoy the holidays together.
- Easter toys: a new toy with an Easter theme, such as a plush bunny or a squeaky Easter egg for the dog.
What to avoid:
Many treats are available for us humans during the Easter holidays. What’s good for us, however, can be poisonous for dogs. Even a beautifully decorated home isn’t entirely safe for your four-legged friend.
- Toxic foods: Chocolate, onions, fatty foods, and alcohol are dangerous for dogs and can lead to poisoning.
- Leftovers: The dog should not be given leftovers, as they are often seasoned or unsuitable for the dog, which can lead to stomach and intestinal problems.
- Decorations: Easter grass and especially small decorative materials can be swallowed by the pet and cause dangerous blockages.
